Liaising between Editorial and Engineering

Everyone at ePP is a subject matter expert and fearless and knowledgeable about the nuances of getting content deployed. This enables us to bridge the gap on the client side that can exist between editorial and the deployment team. In this case, we worked with our client's engineering team to make editorial bug reporting more efficient.

Our client was moving all of their law textbook case studies and assessments to their digital platform, which ingested XML. This XML file is a sample of one of the many types of print content structures we reviewed, parsed, and rebuilt in one of the predetermined XML DTDs.
Many of our clients have building processes that are separate from content development. Because we specialize in digital content, we are comfortable creating specs and scripts such as these ourselves, which can provide a real advantage in budget and schedule.
As part of our work speccing content for ELA, we created scripts for interactivities. This is a deductive reasoning activity using hotspot functionality.
As part of our work developing Grades K–1 interactive math instruction, we created digital versions of print practice items. This is the storyboard for one practice item, including all item text; sample answers or scoring formulas; alt text; audio scripts; metadata, including target standards, DOK, and difficulty level; art and interactivity specs and scrap; and file names and art codes.

Our client had 5 business days to review a full ingestion of Grades K–5 literacy ebooks. We worked in their system to review and edit and/or comment on the text as we uncovered porting defects.
ePP built in-platform accounting tables that included interactive assessment items, complex formatting, and precise data entries. The platform required ePP to design templates, create visual formatting, and work directly in HTML.
Our team made direct fixes in this client’s proprietary authoring platform while performing a character-by-character proofread of the ingested ebook content. We can work in authoring platforms, from those that are intuitive and user-friendly (like this one) to those that are more complex and unwieldy.
